I find it somewhat humorous that many guitar players require absolute silence from the band when they are tuning. Next time the guitar players are tuning up at band practice or before a gig, try this corny joke:
As soon as the last guitar player has tuned up, grab a cymbal wingnut with one hand, hold the edge of the cymbal with the other and place your ear against the cymbal. Annouce to the band; "Hey guys, can you quiet down for a minute? I'm trying to tune this cymbal."
I did this last night during a band practice. Everybody turned around with puzzled expressions followed by groans and shaking of heads. But for a split second, the expressions on their faces conveyed the message; "Gee, I didn't know you could tune those things!"
