I have a DW 6.5 by 14 Performance series snare drum. I put a powerstroke three head because it says the sustain was short. I became a little dissapointed because I heard very long sustain. Why would you put sustain short and when you put it on a snare the sustain is long.
how do remo determines heads stats?

Could be because those are normally tom heads not snare heads .....

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Yes, not sure I would use a PS3 on snare. What you are hearing is shorter than a standard head but is not what you expected. I think what you wanted was a more snappy type of sound. The PS3 is a nice drum head; I use it on both sides of the bass drum. The PS3 ring helps to minimize overtones and allows the lower tones to sing.

Although types of heads all have their variables of tone duration the real factor is tuning, this has a major factor in tone duration. Mess around with head tension and the duration will change. Now don’t forget the reso head (bottom head), I feel the reso head has a lot more to do with duration than most people think. A tighter reso head will quicken the tone.

Don’t be afraid to tighten up that head to a higher tone. Too many drummers think they need a deep robust tone on snare and the head is too loose for playing. The drum size has more to do with that than you may think but that’s another subject.

Get the tuning and playing ability to your liking, if the tone duration is too much put a pad of MoonJel on it. I use that stuff almost all of the time on toms.

PS: Have you tried the Skyntone heads?

Yeah, the rating system used by remo on their website is totally messed up. I've contacted them about that and they never answered back (or modified what was misleading).

example 1: powerstroke having the same durability as 2 ply heads instead of ambassador heads.
example 2: coated ambassador having the same ratings as the clear counterpart. (same thing with the emperor and pinstripe)
example 3: black suede emperor having a longer sustain than clear emperor
example 4: fiberskyn diplomat being as durable as the majority of their drumheads (3 out of 5)

I'm sure one could find more of them but that's my list made with 2 mins of research on their website.

Gretsh Renown Maple 10, 12, 14 and 16 toms, 22 bass drum, Yamaha, Spaun and Pork Pie snares. DW 9002 and Iron Cobra Powerglide double pedals. Many cymbals, here it is:
