Lot's of ways. Thin shells resonate and are higher pitched. Reinforcing rings add support, and lower the pitch slightly. Very thick shells don't resonate at all and just tend to focus the sound coming from the head. Whether or not the shell is finished inside, painted, sanded lacquered or whatever, probably brightens up or dulls the tone a little. Bearing edge type (that the head rests on) vary by a round edge has more head contact, smaller tuning range, but a fatter sound. Sharp bearing edges make more resonance and a larger tuning range.
Drum heads, thinner= more resonance. Thicker, 2 ply, black dot, tape or whatever, decreases resonance and increases the perception of attack (stick or beater hitting the head) but less overall sound.
Kind of an open ended question, so there are some open ended general answers hope it helps some
