For each rhythm there are three dunun (bass) parts and two djembe(accompaniment) parts. Learn djembe, dunun and kenken (bell) parts. Students will learn traditional African rhythms, hand technique, develop ensemble and introductory solo skills.
Bio-
J. Frederick Jones, also known as Djangewali, hails from St. Louis, MO, where he began his studies in West African music in 1975. He later moved to Chicago and became a musical director and dancer with Muntu Dance Theatre, an internationally acclaimed company. Fred moved to Los Angeles in 1990, and now is the director of Abalaye African Dance Ensemble.
Fred has performed throughout the US. He has also appeared in Europe and West Africa. He has worked with Stevie Wonder, Stanley Clarke, Bill Summers, and Mamady Keita, among others. His teaching credits include 7 years at UCLA and numerous residencies.
