Event Time: 4:00PM to 5:30 (1st and 3rd Saturdays of the Month)
Event Location: REMO Recreational Music Center
7308 Coldwater Canyon Ave.
North Hollywood CA 91601
Event Cost: $12.00

Jamie Papish, an experienced hand percussionist of Middle Eastern styles will hold a drum workshop. Learn essential rhythms used in most of the Middle Eastern music of today. In this style of music, a group or orchestra will have a few percussionists that play different parts making up the rhythm section. Students will have the opportunity to learn these rhythms and basic technique on DOUMEK and FRAME DRUM.

Dumbek(aka Darabuka, Derbekke, Tablah)-a vase shaped drum which sits on your lap and is typically the lead voice in the percussion section

Frame Drum (aka Duff, Tar, Bendir)- A large drum that either sits between your legs or in both hands and holds down the basic rhythm

For each of the rhythms, separate parts will be handed out for each instrument and for each variation of the basic rhythm. Once a few rhythms are learned, Jamie will teach rhythmic combinations typically used to enhance the unique emotional aspect of this music. Recordings will be used to demonstrate the feel.
