ARTISTS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES PAINT ON A NEW CANVAS – REMO DRUMHEADS

Artbeat for Humanity 3rd Exhibition Opens January 28 at the Remo Recreational Music Center

Artists from Arts & Services for Disabled have created a unique art project with Remo, Inc., the world’s largest drumhead company. Artbeat for Humanity provides the opportunity for artists with disabilities to utilize the drum not only as an instrument of rhythmic expression, but also as a canvas to share their creative expression through artistic channels. And through the generous support of Remo, Inc., drumheads were transformed into truly inspired works of art.

Remo has created a unique gallery space for the Artbeat for Humanity show at its North Hollywood Recreational Music Center, Remo’s former manufacturing center. The 3rd Artbeat for Humanity show opens on January 28th with a reception starting at 7pm to honor the artists. The show will continue through November 1. All purchases are tax deductible donations to Arts & Services for Disabled, a California 501 (c (3) non-profit dedicated to fostering empowerment through art to individuals with developmental disabilities.

“This has been an incredible experience for our artists,” says Arts & Services for the Disabled Director, Helen Dolas. “Drum art has been a part of humanity for thousands of years in many diverse cultures around the globe. Artbeat for Humanity allows individuals to share their disability culture through self-expression for all to see and hear.”

The project dovetails with Remo’s ongoing efforts to integrate group drumming as a valuable intervention within traditional medicine. HealthRHYTHMS is a new division within Remo Inc. that develops and provides materials, programs, training and the latest research supporting the use of drumming as an effective means for promoting and maintaining health and well-being.

This event will welcome new REMO HealthRhythms Endorsed Facilitators as well as kick off a Health RHYTHMS Training Weekend who are looking for rhythm based tools to use in professional practice.

The primary mission of Arts & Services for Disabled is to provide life-long learning, community service and career opportunities through the creative arts for people with disabilities in an environment of warmth, encouragement and respect.

Remo, Inc. has been the leader in drumhead manufacturing for 50 years. They also manufacture a complete line of World Percussion instruments. Most of their products are manufactured with recycled products, in the USA. The Remo Recreational Music Center is located at 7308 Coldwater Canyon, North Hollywood, CA 91605. (818) 982-0461
