Remo Drum Company Pioneers Drum Circle Theatre
At The 2004 Los Angeles County Fair
Valencia, CA - September 10-27, 2004 - REMO Drum Company is
pleased to announce their sponsorship of a pioneering recreational
music making event at the 2004 Los Angeles County Fair. This year's
Feature Attraction, The Beat Goes On; The History of Music Making,"
will include a first-ever Drum Circle Theatre where people can
literally get jamming and experience a 15-minute drum circle
event.
An estimated attendance of 1.3 million visitors over the 17
days makes Los Angeles America's largest county fair in Pomona, CA. In
addition, about 80,000 school children from close to 5,000 school
groups in K-8 range visit the feature attraction exhibition free of
charge annually.
According to Michael Converse, curator of the Feature
Attraction, "in addition to the incredible displays from Hard Rock
Café, Yamaha, and NAMM, we wanted to include an area where people could
experience making music. Rhythm is contagious and energizing to all
people. We chose to feature the drum circle because it engages all
people immediately."
Group drumming will be featured at the opening ceremony,
September 10th at 10AM, with two-hundred school children joining county
and state officials to generate a great beat to launch the
event.
Remo Drum Company is a leader in creating programs and
research using drumming for wellness and education. The key
philosophical elements of the drum circle have to do with fun,
recreation, and participation." According to owner and founder Remo
Belli, "we'd like to help people of all ages and abilities include
drumming, one of the oldest forms of music making, in their personal
prescription for wellness."
The Drum Circle Theatre will feature over one hundred Remo
world percussion drums. Six 15-minute shows, facilitated by Christine
Stevens and Sammy K. of UpBeat Drum Circles will take place daily; at
10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, and 4:30pm. Between
performances, individuals will be invited to drum to play-a-long
recordings.
In addition, Remo's giant eight foot going drum, used in the
2004 Tournament of Roses Parade will be available for viewing. And
direct from the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics, the Remo World Drum Tower
will also be on display in the Kids' International Exhibit
