OVERVIEW
Filling the foundational role of the bass drum in the percussion ensembles, or bateria, of the Brasilian Carnaval, the Surdo is the heartbeat of the samba rhythm. Surdos are played with a soft mallet in one hand while the opposite hand is used to rhythmically dampen the drum. Remo Surdos carry on this tradition with a choice of key- and cable-tuned models, including the Resposta (24" x 18”), Marcação (24" x 20”), Surdão (24" x 22”) and Contra-Surdo (18" x 16”).

History
Remo has developed a collection of instruments that cover a musical range from Northern to Southern parts of Brasil. Two major musical styles are the inspiration for the Remo Brasilian Collection. The Brasilian Carnaval generates a frenzy of songs, dance and DRUMMING with the Samba Schools in Rio de Janeiro and the AXE Blocos Afro groups in Salvador Bahia.
