How To Measure A Timpani Drumhead | Remo

How To Measure A Timpani Drumhead | Remo

How do I find out the right size Timpani drumhead for my Timpani - Remo Timpani heads are measured from the Outside Dimension or OD of the Flesh Hoop. Remove the counterhoop and measure the OD of the Flesh Hoop to determine the size you need. If the dimension is a whole number such as 31”, as in this illustration, you would need a “3100” size drumhead. The Details Unlike standard batter and resonant drumheads, Remo Timpani heads are measured from the Outside Dimension or OD of the Flesh Hoop. The Timpani Bowl and Counterhoop dimensions are not necessarily important. If the dimension is a whole number such as 31”, as in this illustration, you would need a 3100 size drumhead. If the OD dimensions are not whole numbers such as 29”, 31”, and 34” but are incremental, then it is best to measure the OD of the head in a few different locations and average the numbers. You can center the drumhead on the timpani bowl and use the tuning lugs or struts as guides to measure in different locations across the drumhead.

Measuring Banjo Drumheads | Remo

Measuring Banjo Drumheads | Remo

How do I properly measure my Banjo Drumhead? - The diameter of a banjo head is measured inner-flesh-hoop to inner-flesh hoop of the head (you'll need to take the head off to take accurate measurement...flip the head over to measure the inner dimension(ID)). The measurement must be exact as we go off 1/16" increments. The Collar or 'Crown' height is measured top of the flesh-hoop (aluminum hoop of the head) to top of the playing surface of the head. Standard heights are: low-3/8", medium-7/16", high-1/2".When attempting to measure a head that had been installed on a banjo measurements can be unreliable due to the stretching of the collar. It is always best to contact the manufacturer of the banjo to get the correct size banjo head for your model. When that option is not available we recommend consulting a retailer with experience servicing banjos.
