Clay Sloan has served as assistant director of bands and percussion director at Austin High School in Decatur, Alabama since 1993. His responsibilities at Austin include serving as program coordinator and instructor for the marching band, directing the second concert band and coordinating all jazz and percussion ensembles. Clay also coordinates the annual North Alabama Percussion Festival at Austin. This event brings in 50-100 percussion students from area schools each year to work with well-respected percussion performers and educators from around the country. Clay received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and his Master of Arts Degree from the University of North Alabama. He has served as adjunct percussion faculty at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He was a member of the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, performing in the front ensemble, and has served as an instructor for the Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps. He performs regularly with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, and is active as a freelance performer in the north Alabama area. Clay is actively sought out as an adjudicator throughout the southeastern United States. He is an artist/endorser for Mapex Drums, Majestic Percussion, Remo Drumheads and Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets. Clay resides in Hartselle, Alabama with his wife Tina, and their daughter, Anne Katherine.
